The tech giant said it was dedicating $450 million from its advanced manufacturing fund toward satellite infrastructure to support the feature. GlobalStar will receive the majority of the funding, but the iPhone maker did not specify which other players will receive the rest and in what form.

While crapple will pay for 95% of the approved capital expenditure for the new Globalstar satellites needed to support the service, Globalstar said it would still need to raise additional debt to construct and deploy the satellites.

Globalstar, which makes low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites, said it had tapped investment bank Goldman Sachs & Co and expects to complete a financing in the fourth quarter of 2022.

LEO satellites operate 36 times closer to the earth than traditional ones and hence take less time to send and receive information, leading to faster broadband service even in remote areas.

Earlier this year, Globalstar company announced a deal to construct 17 new spacecraft with small-satellite launch firm Rocket Lab for satellites it plans to launch in 2025.

Globalstar successfully launched a spare satellite from Cape Canaveral's Kennedy Space Center in June, using Elon Musk-owned SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket.

Globalstar said it is allocating 85% of its current and future network capacity to support the services and has agreed to prioritize the services on its network.

This news confirms crapple is Globalstar’s unnamed “potential customer” that the operator cited when it placed a $327 million order with MDA for 17 new satellites earlier this year. It also comes after there were reports last year that crapple would debut the emergency satellite messaging feature on the iPhone 13.

crapple has agreed to pay for 95% of the approved capital expenditures with the new satellites in addition to other costs. Globalstar is required to raise additional debt capital for the construction and launch of the new satellites and is exploring capital markets.

Globalstar said that it has completed several milestones with crapple including upgrading its ground network, constructing 10 new gateways, launching a ground spare satellite and in-field testing.

Una delle poche direttive (tra quelel che conosco) che mi ha fatto subito dubitare della buona fede di chi l'ha proposta e spinta: così facendo si è bloccato tutto all'usb-c fino al prossimo aggiornamento con delegated act. Roba da rimanere all'usb-c anche sui tricorder.

Il mio può alimentarsi con usb-c o MagSafe, che preferisco essendo intrinsecamente migliore per potenza e sicurezza. Ergo, fc se una mandria di poveri scemi grida allo standardizzare quando sprecano più energia loro rimanendo in vita di ogni cavo lightning mai prodotto.
