Microsoft Quietly Region-Locks Digital Xbox One Games And DLC – Error Code”0x87de07d1″ Reported
Games Posted 6 months ago by Fahad Arif

Based on several reports, it looks like Microsoft has “Region-locked” the Digital Xbox One games and DLC. Several users are complaining that they are unable to play digitally purchased and downloaded games on their Xbox One consoles. Some users claim that the games they purchased via redeem codes are no longer available for play and they are being prompted to buy the games again.

Microsoft Quietly Region-Locks Xbox One Digital Games And DLC – You Will Have To Buy Some Games Again

Responding to the requests for cheaper Xbox One digital games, Microsoft started lowering the prices of digital Xbox One games a week ago. The company took a serious approach towards digital distribution of Xbox One games at cheaper rate and reduced the prices for certain AAA titles. Many people have bought digital Xbox One games from Xbox Marketplace since the launch of the console but it looks like now they are having trouble playing the digital Xbox One games on their consoles.

Recently, some Xbox One users started reporting that their digitally purchased copies of Xbox One games have stopped working. According to the reporters, their digital Xbox One games (most notable Forza 5 and Dead Rising 3) worked fine for few weeks to a month initially but then the “play” option for the purchased games disappeared. The users get error code “0x87de07d1″ when they try to play the certain game and they are prompted to buy the game/license again. Following is one of the user complaints regarding the matter on official Xbox forums.

“I am getting the error code 0x87de07d1 on my digital download copy of Forza 5. I have also seen in other posts that at least 2 other people have this error on Dead Rising 3. This is a digital copy of the game that has worked fine for several weeks. It is now acting as though I do not own the game. I have tried turning the system on/off, switching profiles etc but nothing is helping. In the xbox store Forza 5 is displaying the option to buy for £49.99, where it would usually say Play, as I do own the game. I also have a digital copy of FIFA 14 which is working fine, and displays ‘play’ in the xbox store, this shows that I am definitely logged into my xbox live gold account. Originally, I only owned Forza 5 on disc, but later purchased the digital download version. However, I have only ever owned the digital version of FIFA 14, I have never owned a disc version of FIFA 14, so maybe this has something to do with why FIFA works fine but Forza doesn’t.”

Some reports claim that Microsoft has placed a region lock on digital Xbox One games and DLC. Game licenses have been deleted from Gamertags and users will now have to purchase same games again. One user reported that his Forza 5, which he bought from Xbox Live Marketplace using redeem code, stopped working. He called the customer support where he was told that digital Xbox One games and DLC are region locked, however there is no region lock on physical game discs. He was told by the “Advocacy” team that the game codes can only be redeemed from the country that is listed on user’s Xbox Live account. If the code is redeemed from any other country, the game will suddenly stop working after some time and user will get “0x87de07d1″ error code. Below is the report by one of the users.

“There’s definitely a region lock on digital downloads in place, whether that be DLC or full games. I’ve got a UK account and bought a digital copy of Forza 5 on ebay, redeemed it and then about 10 days later it wouldn’t load, just giving me the option to buy it again. After over an hour with xbox live support, I was told For the Xbox One, that is correct. Discs are region free, so it should be that the codes are the same. This is the reason why we are having it being investigated further my friend. It could be an issue somewhere along the way of redeeming the codes, and should be fixed surely, we can assure you of that.

They passed me on to the ‘Advocacy’ team, who eventually told me I was able to figure out that the reason you could not redeem your PPC was because it was intended for another country. When redeeming your token there are two things that need to match up. The country listed on the account must match the country that you are connecting from and the token needs to be for the same country as well. I asked for clarification on region locking on digital game downloads and was advised “All Xbox digital content is region specific. Due to many international and cultural laws, not all content is available everywhere.”

Dead-rising-3-635x357.png

Microsoft did not make a public announcement about anything regarding the region lock on digital Xbox One content so this comes as something of a surprise. Some users were given new codes for their games by the Xbox customer service considering that they did not know the rules and they paid full amount for the game. Xbox One users should double check the redeem codes before buying them off eBay or any other website. If the redeem codes belong to different country than the one that is listed on their Xbox Live accounts, the redeem codes won’t work.

Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare Could Be 810p On Xbox One?

Pixel counters over on the Beyond3D forum have already started picking apart Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The general consensus is obviously that the game isn't running native 1080p. That much is obvious from the trailer. However, the graphics technicians and pixel engineers wanted to apply some guesswork to the upcoming first-person shooter from Sledgehammer Games and Activision.

Now, we often talk about pixel counting but rarely ever discuss how it works. Thankfully, Beyond3D user Allnet breaks it down for the uninitiated...
“It's tricky, but you're basically looking for a leading edge. Some steps have the erm, subsample, and others do not. It kind of just... works for non-integer scaling ( in which case all steps get extra sub-sample shades, and makes it harder although we know how rotated grid MSAA generally looks. It gets more complicated as you go up from there, and you have to look at other factors in image quality).

It's still guesswork, of course.”

From here, the pixel counters estimated the resolution for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare to be between 810p and 900p. The general consensus was that it wasn't 900p, and that it could be closer to 1440 x 810p or perhaps 840p, which was a figure they kept consistently coming back to, even if it wasn't stable across all the tests.

As mentioned by forum user Statix...
"I was getting ~840p pretty consistently. Could be dynamic resolution though, because some parts of the video are definitely blurrier than others."

"I think Globalisateur has the resolution pegged, at least for some scenes. 810p looks about right."

Digital Foundry also did their own analysis of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and came up with 884p, but even they admit that it's a ballpark figure given inconsistent and unreliable information, hinting that perhaps the resolution could be 1568x882, which isn't even a common resolution used for the average television screen. Richard Leadbetter writes...
Here we find a ratio of 49/60 - giving us a provisional measurement of 1568 rendered pixels contained in the 1920-wide sample. Assuming that the upscale is the same in both x and y directions, this gives us 882 pixels on the vertical - unfortunately even the higher quality trailer doesn't give us enough in the way of long horizontal edges to work with in producing a definitive result, and in an ideal world we'd have more viable shots for analysis on both axis.

More generous than the Beyond3D crew, Leadbetter settles with 882p for now until they can get get clearer information on the resolution.

_1399145839.jpg

Based on the Xbox One's previous hardware limitations, and having to rely on 720p for games that have lots of heavy graphical lifting involved, the 810p resolution seems more likely. If Sledgehammer cuts some corners and scale back some of the effects, I can also see the 882p becoming a reality for Advanced Warfare. Remember, console hardware is fixed and optimization can only take you so far.

However, some users on the Beyond3D forums asked whether or not the resolution could increase before launch, or with a post-launch patch, ala Trials Fusion, Assassin's Creed IV or Call of Duty: Ghosts for the PS4.

That kind of wishful thinking was shutdown pretty quick using the kind of pragmatism that's rarely proffered as a PR talking point.

“Resolution generally doesn't increase this far along in development. Especially not when a consistent 60fps is a priority.

Look at Titanfall as an example. PR made it seem like a possibility that they could increase the resolution to 900p at launch, but that never happened. They're still busy trying to stabilize the framerate and alleviate the frame tearing.”

This is true.

When you're designing a game the one thing you're not going to do – on a console, mind you – is push the resolution when you're still optimizing to maintain consistent frame-rates. If you're idling between 50 and 60fps during action sequences, and idling between 40 and 50fps during heavy action sequences, you're not going to boost the resolution in the frame buffer because then you're only going to drop your target frame-rate, exponentially.

In simple terms: Call of Duty prides itself, as a brand, on 60fps (with drops). If they're maintaining 60fps at the moment (or even 57fps consistently) they wouldn't jeopardize that by boosting the resolution and having to settle for 30fps.

Just as the quote above mentioned, it was all a PR game for Titanfall's resolution boost. Remember, even after patches and optimization, Titanfall on Xbox One idles at 57fps and rarely ever maintains 60 consistent frames per second. There was no way the game was going from 792p to 900p when all that would do is cut the frames down to a consistent 30 through 45fps.

Leadbetter also mentioned that there is a consistency in frame-rate that also must be maintained for the Call of Duty games, writing...
“Advanced Warfare is still deep in development and could see substantial changes before it is released - though for a game like COD where a sustained 60fps is so important, we would hope for solid frame-rates taking priority over resolution increases.”

We contacted Sledgehammer Games and Activision's PR affiliates for a clear cut answer (because, why not?) but we haven't received a response as of the writing of this article.

But for a game of Diablo 3's action-focused design - and having played both iterations - we would probably take the locked 60fps at 900p over the less consistent 1080p, given the choice.

non ho detto che gira a 1080p su un'hd4000. Ho detto che ci puoi giocare decentemente su una hd4000, pensare che una console nextgen non riesca a maxare un giochino del genere fa solo piangere.

E pensare che siamo all'inizio, piu avanti andiamo e peggio sarà.
